CSV Column Statistics

Understand the values in every CSV column. Count empty and distinct cells, see the five most frequent values, then copy or download your statistics. Everything runs in your browser.

Your browser is the workspace
CSV
UTF-8 · Up to 5 MB
Exact matching. Only an empty string counts as empty.

How to analyze CSV columns

Paste CSV or open a UTF-8 file, then choose Analyze CSV. Each column gets its own row of statistics, in source order. Scroll the table horizontally on a small screen. Copy or Download exports one CSV row per column, with counts and five value/count pairs.

Input limits

Use up to 5 MB per input with unique, non-empty headers and consistent field counts. The parser trims header names. Empty text lines are skipped, but records with explicit empty fields, quotes or spaces are retained. Header-only CSV produces zero counts.

Total Rows: 6
Non-empty: 6

Distinct Values: 3
Top values:
"Support" × 3
"Sales" × 2
"support" × 1

Frequently asked questions

What counts as empty, non-empty or distinct?
For each parsed data record, only the exact empty string is empty. Spaces are non-empty. Distinct Values counts unique non-empty strings, comparing case, whitespace and line endings exactly: Support, support and Support with a trailing space are different. IDs such as 001 remain text. Empty text lines do not contribute to Total Rows. Explicit empty CSV fields and whitespace-only records are retained, including quoted empty cells in a single-column file.
How are the top five values selected and displayed?
Empty strings are excluded. Values are ordered by descending frequency, with ties following first appearance in the parsed data. Column order follows the CSV headers. Quoted previews expose spaces, tabs and line endings; values longer than 160 characters are shortened only in the table. Complete strings are kept for CSV export. User text is never rendered as HTML.
What is included in Copy and Download, and when are results reset?
Both export the same CSV: column, total_rows, non_empty, empty, distinct_values, then top_1_value/top_1_count through top_5_value/top_5_count. Unused top positions are blank. Formula-like column names and values receive a leading apostrophe during safe export; statistical matching uses their original text. Header-only input returns one zero-count row per column. Editing, replacing or clearing CSV removes previous results and disables exports. Uploaded input and generated CSV are stored separately from the textarea preview, so quoted CRLF/CR cells are retained; manual edits adopt the displayed text.
